ORADEA CITY
Oradea, in the past Oradea Mare (in Hungarian Nagyvárad, in German Großwardein), is a municipality located in the west of Romania, on the Cri?ul Repede River, in the immediate vicinity of the border with Hungary, Bihor County, being the most important city in the region historical Crisana.
Oradea Fortress is an architectural monument in Romania, one of the few functional citadels today. It is said of the city that it could not be conquered because of the vast underground networks of connections with the exterior. The fortress water pit was filled in the case of siege with thermal water (through adductions) from the Pe?a brook. At present, the Faculty of Visual Arts of the University of Oradea is situated within the fortress.
The Black Eagle Palace was built between 1907-1908 in secession style. On the site of this building was the Palace of the Green Tree, which had a hall that hosted cultural and political events. The main façade from Unirii Square is asymmetrical, consisting of two large, unequal bodies, which best reveal the secession style. The facade of the Independence Street body is more orderly and sober. The central motif is an exiled body, divided into two registers, ending in a trilobate attic, with a timer stained glass.
